The Nerstrand Knit Hat pattern uses size 5 yarn, bulky weight yarn. It works up beautifully in Scarfie Yarn or Barcelona by Loops and Threads. It is a gender neutral hat depending on the color. It is knit as a double brim, but includes links to videos on that technique. I also include instructions on how to make affordable faux fur poms with lots of photos! You will be able to start making your own poms for less than $1 each! The pattern has been updated as of Feb 12th, 2021 to include 4 colorwork charts for adding some contrasting colors to the brim of the hat without having to find another skein of yarn. Simply cut a 2 ounce section of solid color yarn from the existing skein!
One skein of Lion Brand Scarfie will make two hats. Red Heart Gemstone or Premier Puzzle yarn are other bulk weight yarns that work well with this pattern.
